Originally cardamom is from India and Sri Lanka, today it is grown in many tropical countries.

Cardamom is one of the oldest and most valuable spices in the world.
By grinding the seeds, one gets a reddish to brownish-gray powder, which is incidentally the main constituent of many curry and masala mixes. Arabic coffee is also added cardamom.

Cardamom goes well with desserts and cakes, is used in Christmas cookies and cakes. Frequently, lamb, pork, rice and fish dishes are flavored with cardamom.
