This traditional Japanese spice mixture consists of 7 ingredients. Outside of Japan, it is also known as Nanami Togarashi. The main ingredients are coarsely ground red chili peppers and orange peel, Sichuan pepper, poppy seeds, black sesame seeds, tamarind, and seaweed. All the spices are ground thoroughly in a mortar.
