To the north of Riquewihr, the vineyards are located on the south and southeast sides of Schoenenbourg on fairly steep slopes at an altitude of 265 to 380 m.

The Grand Cru location Schoenenbourg consists of marly, dolomitic and gypsumous soils from the Keuper, which are rich in fertilising elements and hold water well. The wines from the location are usually very ripe and fairly high in alcohol but also balanced and very mineral.

Depending on the vintage, the Pinot Gris can be either dry or slightly sweet, with a lot of pressure and great ageing potential. The 2020 vintage is trending to the sweet side which also makes it seem significantly bolder than the 2019 vintage, for instance.

The Pinot Gris from Dopff is without doubt a premium wine and impresses with its powerful, full-bodied character. Intense, with good pressure on the palate, ripe pear, a little baked apple, balanced acidity and sweetness. A bold wine, not an aperitif. A wine better suited to go with the main course or a fruity dessert.
