Gewürze Lodner Melegueta Pepper/ Grains of Paradise

In West Africa, we found some spices that are very similar to pepper from an area nicknamed the "Pepper Coast" . This spice, called Grains of Paradise, or also the Melegueta or Guinea pepper, was a popular seasoning during the 15th century.

This is a slightly different pepper that you should try by all means! It has a subtle touch of ginger, cardamom and cinnamon. It is to these many wonderful flavors that it receives its reputation as a "grain of paradise".

Grains of paradise are used the same way as one uses pepper. The grains of paradise are an important part in the "Raz el hanout", the most famous spice mixture in North Africa.

Grains of paradise fit well with red meats, game, potatoes and vegetables.
