Skin Nourishing Spices

Skin Nourishing Spices

People have used spices for many things throughout history. They have used them to preserve food, season dishes, cure ailments, make perfumes and lotions... Even in ancient Egypt, spices were used as natural remedies and it wasn't long before they were also used for skin care.

And with great success. Used correctly, spices revitalise our skin, they can reduce hyperpigmentation, detoxify and also stimulate blood circulation and regeneration.

Note: Because many spices contain essential oils and other intense ingredients, you should not use them directly on your face without first testing their compatibility. To test whether the skin is sensitive to certain spices, apply a little to the wrist and leave it on for an hour or two. Then examine the area and check if it is red or swollen or if nothing is visible.

Spices that are Good for the Skin

Now let's look at five spices that care for our skin:

Ginger

Ginger can be used against skin blemishes, scars and for an even skin tone. This root, which originates from Asia, has strong antioxidant properties that can reduce the appearance of scars. Ginger also prevents free radical damage, helps even skin tone and improves skin elasticity.

Mix one teaspoon each of ginger juice, rose water and lemon juice and gently massage your face with the mixture. Rinse off afterwards.

Turmeric

Turmeric is related to ginger and therefore also has antioxidant properties. It also contains natural oil-controlling ingredients.

The curcumin contained in turmeric is a very potent ingredient and can help reduce inflammation. It also results in more youthful-looking skin and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

Mix one teaspoon each of turmeric, honey and curd/quark together and gently massage the mixture into your face. Leave it on for a while and then rinse it off. This will leave you with naturally hydrated and radiant skin.

Nutmeg

Nutmeg is a completely natural exfoliant.

To get healthy and glowing skin, mix together half a tablespoon of ground nutmeg and a tablespoon of whole milk. Make a paste and rub it gently over your face for a few minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

Pepper

Black pepper has a detoxifying effect and is rich in magnesium, iron, potassium and vitamins C and K. It helps to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation spots. It also helps fight blackheads.

Mix a pinch of ground black pepper with a tablespoon of yoghurt. Then apply this mixture to your face; wash it off after five minutes.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon also has strong antioxidant properties. This delicious spice balances the oil content of the skin and also helps against pimples.

Take half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder, two teaspoons of honey and one teaspoon of fenugreek powder. Mix everything well and apply it to the areas where you have acne breakouts. You can also make a face scrub by mixing cinnamon powder and oats with milk.
