Description

This absolutely rare pepper is grown in the cool, moist ravines of the Tasmanian rainforest in New South Wales in Australia.. The harvest is very limited each year. The Tasmanian mountain pepper grows on an evergreen shrub that grows up to 3 feet high.

Take advantage of the Tasmanian mountain pepper
The berries and leaves of the Tasmanian mountain pepper were used because of their special spiciness in the traditional cuisine of the Australian and Tasmanian aborigines. This precious pepper is suitable for all dishes, but due to its slightly lemony notes, it pairs particularly well with fish. The Tasmanian mountain pepper is often used with curry or cheese to give it a subtle flavor. It is even exported to Japan to spice wasabi. Although wasabi gets its spice from the Japanese horseradish, the mountain pepper completes the taste.

You should still be a little careful when using this pepper since the Tasmanian mountain pepper can be a real "wolf in sheep's clothing". First, you taste its sweet and fruity flavor, which then turns into an increasingly sharp peppery note. People say it is ten times hotter than the familiar black pepper, but it has never been measured to be this extreme.
