Description
If you are looking for something special, this is the pepper for you! The fermented Andaliman is limited in availability every year and the taste is unique. It belongs to the Szechuan pepper genus, is only mildly spicy and surprises with its extremely intense, fruity and unique flavour.
Tip: Chop with a knife and sprinkle over your finished dishes. The pepper is especially tasted on salads, Asian cuisine and for fish dishes and shrimp.
What makes the pepper so special? Andaliman pepper is not grown commercially. It is a wild plant that bears fruits all year-round. The pepper can only be spread by birds. Only certain enzymes found in bird's stomachs allow the seeds to sprout once they have been excreted. Therefore, the shrubs are widespread, but always unique and difficult to find. Collecting is very time consuming. All attempts of cultivation have so far failed. This is also reflected in the price, which is a bit higher than other peppers for this reason.
